About Us

A Legacy of Flavor, A Tradition of Excellence

Vera's Gold is more than just a seasoning—it’s a tribute to the resilience, traditions, and flavors that have shaped our family for generations.

Humble Beginnings

In the 1920's our great grand parents, Anacleto and Anjelita Frias fled Morelia Michoacan carrying gold bars with hope for a new beginning.

California Dream

Rooted in perseverance, family and the rich flavors of their homeland, they found home in Clearwater, California, now known as Paramount.

Woman of the Year

Our grandmother, Elvira "Vera" Amaro, carried these traditions forward. She lived to be 94 and was an active councilmember, water commissioner, vice mayor and then mayor of Paramount, California, in the 1990s.  She was honored as Woman of the Year by the state of California in 2004 for her revitalization, progress and infrastructure work.

In addition to teaching us to be strong independent women, there was nothing she appreciated more than enjoying family and culture through food, preparing chilis from scratch for tamales, enchiladas, pozole, menudo, and fresh flour tortillas made daily. Her kitchen was always open and she enjoyed sharing homemade American desserts such as freshly baked pies, delicious cakes and treats over a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Deeply Rooted in Community

Vera's Daughter, Rosalie "Rosie" Roudebush, carried these flavors with her when she left Southern California in the late 1970s to raise her family in Northern California. Though she built a life there, she always missed her family and the rich Hispanic culture of Southern California. Her family recipes bridged the gap, keeping her connected to her roots and the traditions that defined her childhood.

Rosalie dedicated her life to caring for others. As a registered neonatal nurse for over 40 years, she played a pivotal role in opening the neonatal unit at Sutter Health Hospital in Santa Rosa. She mentored and befriended many in the Spanish-speaking community, caring for their premature newborns with compassion and love.
